By inviting Letterboxd Tracker Bot ("the Bot") to your Discord server or by using any of its slash commands, you ("Server Administrator" or "User") agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms") and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, please remove the Bot from your server and stop using it immediately.
These Terms apply to all users of the Bot, including server administrators who invite and configure it, moderators who manage tracked users, and regular members who interact with its commands.
Letterboxd Tracker Bot provides the following functionality inside Discord servers:
- ▸ Reads public Letterboxd RSS diary feeds for usernames added by server staff, and posts new entries to a designated Discord channel.
- ▸ Provides interactive slash commands for browsing Letterboxd profiles, watchlists, lists, and film details, viewing server and global statistics and leaderboards, and managing bot configuration.
- ▸ Offers filter commands to view a user's logged films by actor, director, genre, decade, or country, and to compare two users' ratings.
- ▸ Tracks daily logging streaks and profile milestones, posts weekly and monthly server recaps, and can give a role to each month's top watcher.
- ▸ Lets members share their profiles on other platforms (/sharelink), verify ownership of a Letterboxd account (/verify), opt out of tracking (/opt-out), and report problems to the developer (/report).
- ▸ Enriches film data with metadata from The Movie Database (TMDB), including posters, cast, trailers and synopsis.
The Bot only accesses publicly available data on Letterboxd.com. It does not interact with private or authenticated Letterboxd accounts.
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Bot, in line with Discord's minimum age requirement. By using the Bot you confirm that you meet this requirement. Server administrators are responsible for ensuring their server community's use of the Bot is appropriate for their membership's age group.
4️⃣
Administrator Responsibilities
Server administrators who add and configure the Bot take on the following responsibilities:
- ▸Consent for tracked usernames. You should only add Letterboxd usernames to the tracking list with the knowledge of the people whose diaries will be posted publicly in your server. Tracking someone's public diary without their awareness, in a context where they would find it objectionable, is your responsibility to avoid.
- ▸Correct account links. Every tracked username must be linked to the Discord member who owns it. Each member can be linked to one Letterboxd account per server, and a username verified by someone else cannot be linked to a different member.
- ▸Respecting opt-outs. Members who use /opt-out cannot be re-added. Do not try to get around this, for example by tracking the same account under another member.
- ▸Public server names. If you make your server name public in global stats, you agree that it contains no slurs, hate speech, harassment or NSFW content, does not target or doxx anyone, and does not impersonate or mislead. Names that break these rules may be hidden, and the server may be locked private.
- ▸Channel permissions. You are responsible for configuring post channels appropriately, including who can view them.
- ▸Role permissions. The Bot's permission system (admin, mod, user groups) should be configured to prevent unauthorised changes to your server's bot settings.
- ▸Compliance with Discord's policies. All use of the Bot within your server must comply with Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
You may not use the Bot to:
- ▸ Violate any applicable law or regulation.
- ▸ Harass, stalk, monitor, or collect information about a person in a way that could cause them harm or distress.
- ▸ Attempt to reverse-engineer, exploit, or abuse the Bot's API interactions, database, or backend infrastructure.
- ▸ Intentionally spam commands in a way that degrades the Bot's performance or availability for other servers.
- ▸ Circumvent the Bot's built-in rate limits or cooldown system through automated scripts or macros.
- ▸ Submit false, misleading, or malicious data via any command, including /adduser, /sharelink and /report.
- ▸ Link or verify a Letterboxd account you do not own, or impersonate another person.
- ▸ Spam or misuse /report. Abuse can lead to a temporary mute or a permanent ban from reporting.
- ▸ Use offensive or harmful server names or usernames to appear on the global leaderboards.
The Bot requests only the Discord permissions it needs to function.
Required
- ▸View Channel - To see the channels where diary entries and command responses are posted.
- ▸Send Messages - To post diary entries and command responses.
- ▸Embed Links - To display diary entries, profiles and stats as rich embeds.
Optional
- ▸Create Public Threads - Only needed if you turn on the auto-thread feature for diary posts.
- ▸Manage Roles - Only needed if you set a Top Watcher of the Month role with /settopwatcherrole. The Bot's role must sit above that role.
The Bot does not read general message content in your server and does not request the Message Content intent. It only processes its own slash command interactions. It is told when a member leaves your server, so a linked member can be untracked automatically.
7️⃣
Availability & Modifications
The Bot is provided free of charge on an "as-is" and "as-available" basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Planned or unplanned downtime may occur due to hosting, third-party API outages (e.g. Letterboxd.com, TMDB, Discord), or maintenance.
We reserve the right to add, modify, or remove features at any time. We may update these Terms at any time by posting a new version on this page. Continued use of the Bot after a change is posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
8️⃣
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Letterboxd Tracker Bot and its developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to: loss of data, missed diary entries due to API downtime, or any harm arising from your use of or inability to use the Bot.
The Bot relies on third-party public services (Letterboxd.com and TMDB). We are not responsible for the accuracy, availability, or content of data returned by those services.
We reserve the right to restrict, suspend, or permanently ban access to the Bot for any server or user that violates these Terms - including adding specific guilds or Letterboxd usernames to a ban list that prevents re-use, removing servers or usernames from global leaderboards, locking a server's name private, and banning users from /report.
You may stop using the Bot at any time by removing it from your server. Upon removal, all data associated with your server is automatically and permanently deleted within 48 hours. See our Privacy Policy for full details on data deletion.
Individual members can stop being tracked in a server at any time with /opt-out, and can release a verified account with /unverify.
The Bot's functionality depends on the following third-party services. Your use of the Bot is subject to their respective terms as well:
- ▸Discord - discord.com/terms
- ▸Letterboxd.com - Public diary and profile data is read from Letterboxd. We are not affiliated with Letterboxd.
- ▸TMDB - Film metadata is sourced from The Movie Database. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
